Variant ascent to reach the Dent du Villard.
If it requires a little effort, it's to offer the grandiose spectacle of the dissolution funnels. Quesaco? Go up and have a look, and do as the chamois do: the grand tour via the Col de la Chal!
Starting from a turquoise-green lake, you follow the trail of 1000 steps: each step bears the name of a person who helped restore the trail, and why not yours?
You're in the heart of the state forest and its tall conifers. They're here to hold up the Dent du Villard, for this mountain is made of gypsum, the soft but brittle rock that gives the entire slope its whitish appearance.
Continuing on, have you noticed these geological curiosities? These are holes and cavities caused by erosion: they're called dissolution funnels. They can be deep, so watch your step!
The orientation table at the summit testifies to the exceptionality of this place, both for its distant panorama and its proximity to the great white domes of the Vanoise glaciers.
You then cross a protected area where you can observe some beautiful high-altitude flora.
